The Foodsaver V 1085 is a wonderful machine for packaging foods. This machine gets the most use when you buy fresh meat and trim and grind it yourself and then portion it into different size packages for freezing. This great machine sucks all of the air out of the package, creating a nice vacuum seal which allows much longer storage than conventional freezer wraps. It is much slimmer than the newer units available in the market with the stored rolls and fits nicely on most of the counters. The rolls of bags come in different widths are readily available online or in many stores. There are also plastic containers that are available with vacuum sealable lids that allow you to store foods in hard containers instead of bags. These are great for crushable items such as fresh fruits and vegetables and soft foods such as cakes and breads.
The Foodsaver V 1085 also has a vacuum port on the top of the machine and comes equipped with short plastic hose and rubber stoppers which are used to remove air from open bottles. Your open wines last much longer when the air has been removed from the bottle. The machine is very easy to use. You have to roll out and cut a strip of bagging material and cut. Then slip one end over the heat sealing pad and close the cover and press down for a while. The machine continues to run as it heat seals the end of the bag. Then place your food into the bag, allowing for enough room at the end to go across the heat pad and into the drip tray and close the lid. Then press down again on the lid and hold for a while and release. The machine will continue to run as it extracts the air from the bag and then shuts off automatically. Open the lid and remove the vacuum sealed bag. Mark accordingly, as the bags come with writable strips along the sides.

The Foodsaver Pro is the latest arrival in the market and it has virtually replaced the older 750 model from the market. The Foodsaver Pro not only lets you buy in bulk and stores the perishables quite effectively, beside that it can be used for many other uses. The first of these is wine. Most of us enjoy wine with our dinner several times a week and one of the problems we use to have is that the wine left in the bottle often turns to vinegar before we finish it. By using the Foodsaver bottle stoppers you can change that quite effectively. Wines can stay good at least for two months, either in the refrigerator or pantry. This allows you to buy a big bottle, obviously for a bargain and save money on that account too. Oils are another use of the Foodsaver Pro. Most of the oils start to turn bad after about six months of being opened. Although many of us buy small containers of oil but they normally last well beyond their shelf life except for the olive oil. Consequently, we can use the bottle stoppers for the other oils including the peanut, walnut, canola, truffle-infused, chili and sesame oils to save them for prolonged use. Always remember to keep the sesame oil in the refrigerator, even with the bottle stopper on.

The Freezer burn can degrade the flavor and texture of meat, poultry and other food material stored in the freezer, leaving it discolored, unappetizing and even inconsumable for the human beings. So, the question automatically arises how do you prevent freezer burn from ruining your edible food? Some of the studies have come out with the probable answer to this question. Recently TILIA, the maker of Foodsaver appliances and the leading manufacturer in the home vacuum packaging industry, announced about its new research results about freezer burn prevention, based on a study conducted by an independent microbiological research company.

The study on the Tilia Foodsaver bags concluded that vacuum packaging in Foodsaver bags provides better protection against freezer burn than use of the leading brand of recluse able plastic food storage bags, by a wide margin. The studies were conducted over a four-week period and the study compared chicken breasts and beef patties stored at normal household freezer temperatures in Foodsaver bags versus two types of freezer bags available in the market and made by the leading manufacturers. The other two freezer bags tested were the leading brand’s regular freezer bags available in the market and positioned as the best protection against freezer burn.
